Chapter 1
Cassandra (Casey) is going to turn 14. Jeff and Elliott are planning to scare her in some way. They want to blow the lid off the trash can during her birthday party and they will celebrate on the last Saturday before school starts. Story starts with the three boys trying to blow up a metal trash can in the concrete spillway near their house. Little explosion with lid just flopping over. They want the lid to fly and the bang to be bigger.

"Run!" Elliot yells to Jeff and Matt. They barely had time to scramble up out of the concrete spill way before the fire creaping up the fuse hit the dynomite.
The sound of the explosion ripped through the air. Their hearts were pounding in their chests. Looking over the top of their protective wall, the boys saw the fragmented remains of the metal trash can, they had just blown up.
"Whohoo!" Jeff yelled. "That was excelent, exquisit, superb! Elliot your are a genious!"
Elliot gave Jeff a quisical look and said. "Jeff, it wasn't suppose to blow apart! The lid was suppose to go flying. Up."
"We should leave." This came from Matt who was pointing towards town. They could hear sirenes in the distance, heading their way.
In a flash, Jeff jumped down into the spill way and tossed up the extruded remains of the trash can and headed for the woods. They had just worked their way up the hill when looking back they saw the police car pulling into the parking where they had decided to test their experiment.
"Next time we head out of town." stated Elliot.
"You are NO fun!" retorted Jeff.
Then Elliot added, "Let's leave the can here until later and walk around the block to get home."
"You worry to much!"
"You don't worry enough."
"I worry just right." added Matt who had been pretty quiet since the explosion. He kept sticking his fingers in his ears to try to get his hearing back.
